200 years in the heart of historic downtown Montrose
This building first started in November of 1854 and opened it’s doors in 1859 as a bustling commercial space. From the very start, it was designed to adapt and serve the community. Originally constructed as a large commercial building, the first floor housed a general store and banking office, serving as a vital hub for the local economy in the mid-19th century. The second floor was intended as living quarters, though period newspaper advertisements suggest it was also used as professional office space, reflecting the building’s flexible and community-centered design even in its earliest years.
The third floor became home to the Masonic Hall Lodge, a role it proudly held until November 2020—an extraordinary 166 years of continuous use for the same organization. This remarkable longevity adds to the building’s legacy and makes The Relic a rare example of preserved civic and social history in the region.
Today, The Relic stands at the heart of a walkable historic downtown, surrounded by beautifully preserved buildings and historic homes. Guests will find local shops, a coffee shop, and a classic historic movie theater just steps away, making The Relic not only a unique historic event venue, but also an ideal destination for weddings, gatherings, and celebrations rooted in authentic small-town charm.
